The Zodiac story and Konfu's New Year wishes
2023-01-12
The Lunar New Year will begin on 20 January this year. And it’s the year of the Rabbit.
Rabbits represent kindness, cleverness, and alertness in Taiwanese culture. There are different versions of zodiac stories in Asian countries. In Taiwan, the 12 zodiac signs in order are as follows: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. And we’d like to share an interesting story with you.
Legend has it that the Jade Emperor wanted to designate 12 animals as calendar signs, so he held a race and announced that the fastest runners will be selected. Rat and Cat used to be friends. Cat worried about the early gathering time and asked the rat to wake it up. However, on the day of the race, the rat got up early and didn’t wake up the cat as promised. When it almost reached the finish line, there was a big river to cross. So the rat asked for the help of the diligent and kind-hearted ox. The ox carried it to the other side and the rat suddenly jumped to the front and became the first animal to arrive
Rabbit got to the river early and did not see any other animals so it went off to the side and napped. However, when it woke up, rat, ox, and tiger had already arrived. So, the rabbit became the 4th in zodiac order. Soon after came the other animals. The poor cat overslept and when it finally arrived, the race was over. That’s why the cat doesn’t get along well with the rat and chases the rat whenever they encounter one another.
We hope you enjoyed this zodiac story and wish you a happy year of the rabbit!
